To connect a Mac through Horos in a local PACS each Mac needs its own AE Title and IP address. These steps assume the Mac is on the same local network as your NAS. Follow the steps below:
- Give the Mac a reserved local IP in your router, so it stays unchanged.
- Horos → Preferences → Listener
- Enable the DICOM listener.
- Assign a unique AE Title, e.g.
HOROS_MACBOOK. - Set the listening port to
11112. - Allow incoming connections to Horos in the Mac firewall.
- Horos → Preferences → Locations: add Orthanc:
Setting Value AE Title ORTHANCAddress 192.168.1.13Port 4242Retrieve mode C-MOVE - NAS → File Station → docker → orthanc → config → orthanc.json: add the new Mac inside
DicomModalities, preserving existing entries:"HOROS_MACBOOK": ["HOROS_MACBOOK", "192.168.1.XX", 11112]Replace
192.168.1.XXwith its reserved IP. Keep commas between entries; no comma after the final entry. - Restart the Orthanc container, then quit and reopen Horos.
- Test: perform a fresh Query → select a study → Retrieve.
To give a permanent IP address in a device use a DHCP reservation: your router will always assign the same local IP to that MacBook.
- On the MacBook, open System Settings → Wi-Fi → Details → TCP/IP. Note the Router address and the Mac’s current IP.
- Enter the router address in your browser and log in.
- Look for LAN / DHCP Server → Address Reservation, Static Lease, or DHCP Reservation.
- Select the MacBook from the connected devices. If necessary, enter its Wi-Fi MAC address manually.
- Reserve its current IP—for example,
192.168.1.14—provided it belongs to that Mac and does not conflict with another reservation. - Save, then disconnect and reconnect Wi-Fi. Check that the Mac receives the reserved address.
Keep the Mac’s “Configure IPv4” set to “Using DHCP”.
If Private Wi-Fi Address is available for your home network, use Fixed or Off, rather than Rotating, so the router can consistently identify the MacBook. Wi-Fi and Ethernet have different MAC addresses and need separate reservations.
